Hybrid Strategies for Efficient Intra Prediction in Spatial SHVC

With multi-layer encoding and Inter-layer prediction, Spatial Scalable High Efficiency Video Coding (SSHVC) has extremely high coding complexity. It is very crucial to speed up its promote widespread cost-effective SSHVC applications. Specifically, we first reveal that the average RD cost of Reference (ILR) mode different from Intra mode, but they both follow Gaussian distribution. Based on this discovery, apply classic Mixture Model Expectation Maximization determine whether ILR best thus skipping mode. Second, when units (CUs) in enhancement layer use it indicates simple texture presented. We investigate their Directional Mode (DM) distribution, divide all DMs into three classes, then develop methods with respect classes progressively predict DMs. Third, by jointly considering rate distortion costs, residual coefficients neighboring CUs, propose employ Conditional Random Fields model early terminate depth selection. Experimental results demonstrate proposed algorithm can significantly improve negligible efficiency losses.
